Straight out of Berlin’s creative underground, the Moses Yoofee Trio arrives with MYT—a debut that doesn’t just announce their presence, it practically rewires the circuitry of contemporary jazz. With one foot planted in tradition and the other stepping boldly into hip-hop, electronic textures, and soulful ambience, MYT is a high-voltage fusion session that pulses with life.

From the jump, “INTO YOU” sets a cinematic mood. Moses Yoofee’s piano lines shimmer with restraint, leaving room for texture and atmosphere to bloom. Then the rhythm section locks in—Noah Fürbringer’s drums skitter and snap with breakbeat swagger, while Roman Klobe-Barangă anchors the groove with a bass tone so warm you could sleep in it.

By the time we hit “RIDGEWALK” and “GEMINI,” the trio is in full stride. This isn’t background jazz—it’s active, expressive, and unapologetically modern. These tracks swing in unconventional ways, powered by the trio’s locked-in chemistry and fearlessness in bending the rules.

A true highlight comes with “GREEN LIGHT,” featuring a guest verse from London rapper ENNY. The vibe flips effortlessly into neo-soul territory, proving just how fluid the trio’s sound can be. It’s collaborations like this that give MYT its forward-thinking edge without ever feeling forced.

Not every moment stretches out—”WHIP.wav” barely hits the 90-second mark—but these compact sketches feel like glimpses into the trio’s creative process. If anything, they leave you wanting more, which is a pretty good problem to have on a debut.

The guest appearances are tastefully woven in. “DEEP” brings in saxophonist Wanja Slavin for a dreamy, ambient detour, while “THIS COULD BE THE END” floats on EVÎN’s haunting vocal layers, closing the album on a note that feels introspective and unresolved in the best way.

In a year already packed with excellent jazz releases, MYT stands out for its clarity of vision and refusal to sit still. It’s equal parts heady and vibey—music you can analyze or just ride with. For a trio making their debut, the Moses Yoofee Trio sounds startlingly sure of who they are.

Keep your ears on Berlin—this is only the beginning.
